<p>Alaska&#8217;s Czech community welcomed <a href="http://www.mzv.cz/washington/en/about_us/our_ambassador/index.html" target="_blank"><strong>Ambassador Petr Kolar</strong></a> (right) to a Czech gala event in Anchorage last week, where Alaskan Frank Nosek (left) was promoted to Honorary Consul General of the Czech Republic. Governor Sarah Palin and Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan joined the ambassador in thanking Mr. Nosek for his almost ten years of service as Honorary Consul. Nosek later accompanied <a href="http://www.mzv.cz/washington/en/about_us/our_ambassador/index.html" target="_blank">Ambassador Kolar</a> at an <a href="http://alaskaworldaffairs.org/" target="_blank">Alaska World Affairs Council</a> luncheon where the ambassador spoke on &#8220;<strong>Europe and The United States: Why We Need Each Other</strong>.&#8221; In his talk, the Czech Republic&#8217;s Ambassador to the United Sates speaks about transatlantic relations, Czech-U.S. relations, Iranian protests, missile defense and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.</p>

A longtime expert on immigration and refugee policy, Dr. Martin came to Georgetown University after having served as the Executive Director of the U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform, a bipartisan panel appointed by the President and Congressional leadership. Dr. Martin has conducted field-based research on refugee issues in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Central America in addition to her work on U.S. and European immigration and refugee policy. Her talk, on<em><strong> U.S. Immigration Policy: Challenges for the Future </strong></em>was recorded in Anchorage on May 29th.</p>

He specializes in modern Japanese history focusing on Japan&#8217;s Siberian Intervention. His book on this topic is currently under consideration by the University of Hawaii Press.</p>

In the second half of the program, <strong>Sergeant Major Patrick Meegan</strong>, <strong>Master Sergeant Scott Anderson</strong> and <strong>Second Lieutenant John Romspert</strong> join Colonel Daly in responding to a wide array of questions from the audience ranging from combating Taliban influence, poppy growth and cultivation, and predictions for the future, as more Americans troops are sent to Afghanistan.</p>

Despite the challenges Tibet continues to face in their struggle to end the Chinese occupation and attain basic human rights, <strong>Lobsang Nyandak</strong> remains hopeful that one day all Tibetans will be able to return to a free and peaceful homeland. Recorded in Anchorage on March 20th, the Dalia Lama&#8217;s representative to the United States, <strong>Lobsang Nyandak</strong> speaks on <strong><em>The Future Prospects for Tibet</em>.</strong></p>

<p><strong>Nick Lawson</strong> began working for <strong>Doctors Without Borders</strong> (Medecins San Frontieres, MSF)  in Southern Sudan during Second Sudanese Civil War in 1997.  Since then he has circled the globe providing aid to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters. Today he leads the New York based human resources team that recuits and places Americans in Doctors Without Borders projects around the world. Recorded March 13th in Anchorage, Lawson speaks on <em><strong>Managing and Emergency, Behind the Scence at Doctors Without Borders</strong></em>.</p>
